Description
Theraphosidae sp. chorrillo grande is the larger sister form to the 'chica' variant — a terrestrial spider with a noticeably heavier, more substantial build native to the humid tropical forests of South America. Where the smaller form offers a compact profile, this one fills the enclosure with a dark-bodied presence that rewards close attention: a solid, unhurried animal that carries itself with the quiet authority of something that has never needed to be decorative.
Temperament sits in the middle ground — neither overtly defensive nor especially tolerant of disturbance. Like many terrestrial theraphosids, it will kick urticating setae when it judges the situation warrants, so routine maintenance is best approached with calm deliberation. Its feeding response is reliable, which makes watching it hunt a regular pleasure rather than a rare event.
Housing follows the standard terrestrial setup: 7–10 cm of coconut fibre substrate, a hide positioned at the edge of the enclosure where the spider can anchor a retreat, and a shallow water dish. Keep humidity moderate by misting one side of the enclosure and letting the other dry out between sessions. Room temperature is sufficient.
Theraphosidae sp. chorrillo grande is, frankly, a species for the keeper who finds the edges of the catalogue more interesting than its centre — someone drawn to undescribed forms not from lack of alternatives but from a preference for open questions over settled answers. If Theraphosidae sp. chorrillo chica already sits on a shelf in your collection, the larger form is less an addition than a completion: the same story told at a different scale, still waiting for a name.
