Description
Eresus walckenaeri orange ring mountanatica
Eresus walckenaeri "orange ring Mountanatica" is a local form of the popular orange-banded variety of one of the largest ladybird spiders. It is distinguished by its origin from a specific population, prized by collectors who value line purity and provenance. This form also grows larger than the classic "orange ring". The female is imposing, with the characteristic band; the male wears the genus' classic vivid red and black.
Terrestrial and secretive: a silk-lined burrow with a camouflaged entrance, ambush hunting, a life mostly hidden. A species for the patient observer.
Husbandry is as for all Mediterranean Eresus — warm and **strictly dry**: dry substrate, no misting, good ventilation. An enclosure with enough substrate for a burrow is sufficient.
For the collector who pays attention to line provenance — an imposing, ornamented form of walckenaeri in its "Mountanatica" guise.
