Description
Eresus walckenaeri orange ring classic
Eresus walckenaeri "orange ring" is a prized colour form of one of the largest ladybird spiders, distinguished by a pronounced orange-red band on the female's abdomen. Add the genus' classic asset — a male in vivid red and black — and the combination of an imposing, ornamented female and a spectacular male makes this one of the most sought-after Eresus in the hobby.
Like the whole species it is terrestrial and secretive: it builds a silk-lined burrow with a camouflaged entrance and hunts from ambush. It is a species to observe, not to handle — it stays hidden most of the time.
In the terrarium, warmth and **dryness** are key — dry substrate, no misting, good ventilation. Moisture is fatal to Mediterranean Eresus. An enclosure with enough substrate for a burrow is all it takes.
For the collector who wants the most striking form of walckenaeri — with the female's orange band as its signature.
