Description

Davus sp. Chiapas hails from the Mexican state of Chiapas — one of the country's most biologically rich corners, where humid tropical forest still hides species waiting on a formal name. This is one of them. Sitting in an open chapter of arachnology, its full story is still being written, and that alone gives it a particular pull for keepers who like following the science as it unfolds. In appearance it runs darker than its relative Davus pentaloris: a compact, terrestrial build typical of the genus, dressed in deep brown-black tones with subtle lighter accents that catch the eye without demanding it.

Temperament is the genus hallmark — calm and unhurried without being dull. No defensive flare-ups, no skittish dashes across the enclosure. Davus sp. Chiapas moves on its own schedule, and that predictability becomes its own quiet reward once you've watched it for a season or two.

Care follows the familiar terrestrial pattern: 5–7 cm of coconut fibre substrate, a hide, and a water dish. Humidity stays moderate, with occasional misting enough to keep conditions right. Room temperature suits it year-round, and the species asks for nothing more elaborate than that.

This one is for the keeper who finds satisfaction in following a genus closely — who wants not only the described species on the shelf but the gaps between them. Davus sp. Chiapas is exactly that kind of gap: a named locality population from a remarkable corner of Mexico, formally unnamed, genuinely distinct, and the sort of animal that quietly anchors a collection for years while taxonomy slowly catches up.
